An Unacceptable Offer is one of the few Mary Balogh books that I love – I usually have a love-hate relationship with them, and they are kind of guilty pleasures because of it – because it really shows two people getting to know each other and falling in love.
I loved the part where her hurt, anger over the proposal and her reason for refusal are explained. I absolutely loved it. But she knows what the situation is, accepts it and makes her choices accordingly. And she had tried to convey to him her anger in being thought of by labels.
She set her sights so high that any other man falls so far short that she cannot bring herself to accept him. She was not needed as Jane…. This is a romance from the Mary Balogh that I know and love. She hated unaccceptable in the country and had no interest in raising their two girls. It is story of it’s time first published in the late 80’s so don’t expect it to be super steamy, but I still liked seeing how Jane and Michael got to know each other. I really adored Jane and can feel for her, unlike others females jumping at the chance to marry big with or without love, Jane is level-headed and gives ubacceptable man who ask her hand in marraige deep thought, weighting in her mind her options before either going into spinsterhood or getting married and being content in no doubt a loveless marriage.
