If the infamous Cheez pair could travel to everywhere else in the region, it was inevitable that they would have visited the Picts as well. In the case of this new Asterix both the writer and artist are new and yet they keep the quality and expectation fullfilled. Ferri conforms more closely to the Uderzo formula, with our heroes travelling abroad for an adventure that pokes gentle fun at national stereotypes and cultural touchstones, whilst thwarting This is the first Asterix album not featuring the work of Goscinny or Underzo asyerix I therefore approached it with trepidation; would it be any good?
Ferri and Conrad’s loving continuation of the Asterix series does not disappoint. Dec 29, Mark rated it liked it Recommends it for: Of course, it’s the only Asterix you’re going to read that you haven’t read before, and the art lws so similar that the handover between generations is just about seamless.
In fact reading the classic Asterix tales these days I see still a lot of things I missed before probably due to growing older.
Oct 28, Paul rated it it was amazing Shelves: But the greatest void, I thought, was the story itself. With such a great legacy, I would have wished for the story cez include some of the fiery wit, polished narrative and character displayed by this tiny tich and fatman who isn’t fat in ages past. In fact this edition has not only been translated into English but Scots and although I read the English edition I picts still eager to read the Scots version as even having a flick through it in the bookshop gave me a few giggles.
Asterix and the Picts (Asterix, #35) by Jean-Yves Ferri
I love all their books. Some people haven’t been all that impressed with the puns used for the pictish characters but both French and English versions are devilishly clever. Sin tomar mucho riesgo, el nuevo equipo hizo un Asterix “a la antigua”: Trivia About Asterix and the P Schnapschus, Habdenblus, Mac Abbergh.
The really weird thing about this book is the stuff that you normally see in an Asterix book, replicated perfectly here.
I find this new book easily better than some of the solo-works by Uderzo who remained the sole original for some albums. Aug 02, Angus Mcfarlane rated it liked it Shelves: Me ha gustado mucho volver a leer las aventuras de asterix y obelix!
A few mentions of a Salmon, an obvious nod to the former SNP leader Salmond, crop up on occasion also. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
Asterix and Obelix take him back to his clan in Scotland so he can find his love and marry her. Would the new artist capture the style and likenesses well? Bit of amazed at how the author and the Illustrator took off flawlessly Goscinny’s work.
Los nombres de cada personaje me han hecho reir mucho, y aunque la historia se me ha hecho corta, y he echado de menos eook hubiera mas romanos, los dibujos me han gustado mucho, y la ambientacion en el lago ness tambien. A bit like seeing a very good friend for the first time in years.
I also loved all stories by Uderzo, up until ‘Asterix and the Magic Carpet’, after which something changed.
I see that this newest Asterix by another author has cehz some controversy. This review was originally posted on my blog here: I have been an avid fan of the Asterix books since I was in the single digits and I first discovered this wonderful world of Ancient Gaul in my library. In English he’s Macaroon, a French tasty treat, or according to Samuel Johnson an 18th c English man of letters notoriously bigoted towards the Scotsa coarse rude low fellow.
Would the new writer be sympathetic to the history of 34 preceding volumes? As such I did enter the discussion of his series should be continued and how does one keep the same quality??
Also of Uderzo’s brilliant visual capture of Goscinny’s grand vision. So how is the first non-creator created Asterix book? Ferri conforms more closely to the Uderzo formula, with our heroes travelling abroad for an adventure that pokes gentle fun at national stereotypes and cultural touchstones, whilst thwarting a Roman plot and bringing back some of the traditional aspects of our characters, like their very short tempers, which fell by the way somewhat when Uderzo was writing.
At least I can see the potential here.

AsterixObelixPanoramix. Los nombres de cada personaje me han hecho reir mucho, y aunque la historia se me ha hecho corta, y he echado de menos que hubiera mas romanos, los dibujos me han gustado Me ha gustado mucho volver a leer las aventuras de asterix y obelix!
No le he dado 5 estrellas porque como ya he comentado, me han faltado algunos romanos mas So why only a lukewarm reaction to it? As the title suggests this episode sees Asterix, and his trusty sidekick Obelix, encounter the Picts of Brittany; of course, they once again are challenged to save their new friends, encounter some troublesome well somewhat Roman soldiers and share some bromance arguments that provide laughs for audience.
