Return to Book Page. Lady X Everyone knew Lady X. The masked courtesan was reputedly a noblewoman fallen on hard times. Lynnsay Lord James had not known was that she was Lady Margaret Wentworth—the feisty sister of his best friend.

Gerald claimed his sibling was beautiful, virtuous, naive; and he had forced James into an oath of protection. But when James tracked the girl to a house of ill erluctant, what other explanation could there be but that Maggie was London’s most enigmatic wanton?

Snatching the wench away would be a ticklish business, and after that, things would get harder. James had to ignore his quarry’s violent protests that he was an idiot, that she was never the infamous X.

He had to find a way to reform the hoyden, to save her from scandal. He had to steer clear of his own meddling aunt—all while keeping his hands off those luscious goods that the rest of the ton had reputedly sampled. And, with Maggie, hardest of all would be keeping himself from falling in love.

Reflrmer with This Book. Feb 07, Natasha rated it really liked it. Sure there were times where I thought the Heroine got into trouble just for fun, and it seemed a bit unrealistic that she could so many times, but then I thought, this was a different time, and llynsay was different for woman, so sure, it could happen! Her personility was sweet yet strong.

She was strong willed and kind. It was fun reading along with her. James was a hit for me.

I think I have a thing for strong, mysterious older not too old! When the character is a strong, stern man, and the woman helps him break free, but only for her. I think it’s sweet. This book was an enjoyable read for a winter evening. There was mystery, romance, a bit of horror and many good twists. As historical romances go, it was good. I would have liked another book with the same cast, but this is a stand alone novel, so all is well that ends well, I suppose!

Not one of Lynsay Sands ‘s best books it seems I do not appreciate her Regency London novels as much as other people but it’s a good read. I would have finished it fast it took me a week but I had bronchitis and a sinus infection and I wasn’t into reading I was into sleeping. I was just not into it. I got bored than I started skipping just to get to the end. This was an old book I picked up at a flea market. I read all of lynsay sands books, she’s funny and can always come up with a plot that has you saying “how can she be so stupid” or they get in one mess right out of another trying to cover up for something.

Some can be pretty funny. I think this was one of her very early books before she got so funny or had much plot. Neither character got me.

This friend promised to take care of his sister after his death. It is pretty funny for the first half, but seemed to drag after that.

I seemed to graze over parts that would not end Don’t give up on LS though! Almost all of her sanda are worth the quirkiness I was pleasantly relieved to discover that this book was much more intriguing that the synopsis suggested.

The love story was good. The over arching mystery was pretty decent, it added suspense and danger, but for someone so smart the heroine makes a bunch of very stupid moves that land her in more danger than she out to have found.

I was less than thrilled at the end when there was way to much emotional angst for book where the protagonists are adults over That knocked it down a star when t I was pleasantly relieved to discover that this book was much more intriguing that the synopsis reeformer.
